Review: Puppy Love by Tsuchida Haru

May 24, 2022

Today we're taking an early look at Puppy Love by Tsuchida Haru! As always, a big thank you to Tokyopop for the opportunity to share our take :)

Puppy Love tells the story of Inukai and Hoshi. Inukai is an office worker with a brutal schedule that is quickly wearing him down. On his first day off in two weeks, Inukai goes shopping. While he's out he comes across a pet shop and stops to admire the puppies in the window. This is where Inukai meets Hoshi, a clerk at the pet store who invited Inukai to hold one of the puppies. As the two converse about Inukai's desire to own a dog and his troubles with his work, Hoshi takes note of something unique about Inukai: his scent. As it happens, Hoshi was once a dog and is searching for the young boy who saved him many years ago - a boy who smelled just like Inukai.

I don't want to cover more than that about the plot, as it would give away the story and that's never any fun! This manga is a slow burn with a much more natural progression and development than many other titles out there. Puppy Love strikes the perfect balance between not being rushed and not being dull. The characters and story line were genuinely endearing, and since it is a 16+ title it does not rely on sex scenes to carry the story forward. Start to finish it was just so cute! Definitely a feel good story that leaves you saying aww at the end.

There is the tiniest bit of spice at the end of the book, but it isn't drawn out, nor is it graphic. You know what's up, but it's handled very tactfully. All in all, if you like a sweet story that's all about innocent love, Puppy Love is a must have!

Puppy Love hits shelves June 14, 2022!

TLDR;

A feel good story all the way around! This one is totally SWEET!
