Review: Tomorrow, Make Me Yours by Kaoruko Miyama

May 4, 2022

We're feeling the love for Tokyopop this week, guys. Not only did they feature Yiggybean on twitter during Small Business Week, but they hooked us up with this wonderful title to review for you all!

Tomorrow, Make Me Yours is a sweet high school romance between two young men who couldn't be more different. First we have Yuki Matsumiya - a shy, insecure, only child who moves through his high school career as quietly as possible with no close friends in sight. Then we have Hayato Izumida - an outgoing, popular type who is the oldest of five children in his family and for whom connecting with those around him comes easily.

Our story begins with an anxious Yuki agonizing over having to introduce himself to his fellow classmates at the start of his senior year. As Yuki slides the door to the classroom open he momentarily locks eyes with popular kid Hayato - with whom Yuki has no real relationship as they have never been in the same class before. In that split second we see Yuki look startled by the eye contact while Hayato looks in awe and maybe just a tad dreamy? And just like that, guys, we're boarding this ship!

Yuki, being the shy kid he is, leaves the heavy lifting to Hayato in establishing any form of communication between them. Our two MC's first conversation is a brief exchange over Yuki's choice of a sweet, strawberry pudding flavored drink, but that little exchange definitely leads to something even sweeter! As our characters get to know one another we're treated to panel after panel of furtive glances, dreamy smiles, and blushing cheeks as part and parcel of one of the sweetest, feel-good love stories in a hot minute. I just could not get enough of these two!

Now, we know there'd be no story to tell without obstacles to overcome, right? In this case, the thing to overcome is just the bumbling, unrefined issues of young love. We spend the first third of the volume with Yuki and Hayato each building towards a (very satisfying) confession, and the remainder of the volume watching them bungle things a bit as they figure out how to navigate touchy subjects like jealousy and physical intimacy.

With a title like Tomorrow, Make Me Yours and an 18+ rating I think it's safe to say readers are expecting Yuki and Hayato to hit the sheets, am I right? Well, that certainly does happen, but this is not one of those situations where the sex carries the story. In this case, the sex is something that comes as a logical part of the story's development and it is handled in a way that I think readers will find satisfying as part of such an otherwise sweet story. By that, I mean that the intimacy between Yuki and Hayato is actually more tender than raunchy - it's a true extension of their feelings towards one another and a meaningful component in the story.

Censorship-wise, we are not in the land of lightsabers here (which is a little ironic since I'm writing this on May 4th). Censorship in this volume is handled with white barring as needed, though a lot of the "hot shots" are handled tastefully enough that they didn't have to go wild with it.

Over all, this one is SO sweet. It's nice to see a healthy romance where nobody is unhinged and nothing absolutely insane happens. Instead, it feels like we just get to watch two sweet individuals fall in love. It's a great read that left me hoping that maybe there's a chance we'll get to see Yuki and Hayato again - maybe as they tackle college life or the work
force? Sometimes, you just wanna see a happy couple!

Tomorrow, Make Me Yours hits shelves Tuesday, May 24, 2022! Check back on the day and we'll link you to it! Until then see what's in stock at Yiggybean now!

TLDR;

You could get away with reading this one anywhere you want right up until about... the last 50 pages or so? After that, all bets are off. This one is SWEET & SPICY
